Feng Shui in the Nursery
Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art and science which reveals to us how to balance the energies of a space to assure health and good fortune to those inhabiting it. Feng meaning wind, Shui meaning water, 2 basic elements which come together creating yin and yang with the flow of chi. Admit it, we can use all the help we can get!
Feng shui your way to a positive environment for you and your baby. Using feng shui helps make baby less fussy, more comfortable, healthy and happy. Let’s face it, a happy baby makes a happy mommy, a happy mommy makes a happy daddy. The wonders of feng shui!
Tips for feng shui – ing your way to positive flowing energy. Don’t put the bed against a window rather line it up so that the breeze from the open window creates a flow of soft wind which will stimulate a mobile or gentle caress baby creating soft energy and positive movement. The crib should not be put directly in line with the door as positive energy will flow out rather than in. Have a solid wall behind the crib and the bottom of the crib should be at least 20 cm above the ground with a clear space underneath. No mirror or highly reflective surfaces should be facing the crib.
When painting the nursery keep in mind these colors:
Blue – water, ease, freshness and abundance
Pink – Fire and passion, the universal color of love it is the perfect color to soothe the energy, pink soothes the heart and fills it with love.
Strong Yellow – Fire, associated with the rising sun always uplifting and cheery, as well as creating a coze space, an excellent choice for a nursery
Use the Baby Spaces templates to assist you in positioning the nursery furniture. The templates take the back breaking work out of moving around heavy cribs, change tables and dressers.

Didn’t think kids required their own furniture? If that’s the case, then clearly you don’t have kids. Kids require their own furniture just like you require your own. If you think of the kids furniture as the same as bedroom furniture then you wouldn’t be too far off in your allegations.
Let’s take a chronological look at the furniture your kid will need as they grow.
Baby Furniture
You may have wondered why I didn’t specify cribs only. Well, that’s because there’s more than just cribs when it comes to furniture for baby! In fact there’s such things as changing tables and glider/rockers.
Baby furniture is the first type of kids furniture you’ll be purchasing, but certainly not the last. You’ll start with the crib – the bed for baby. The crib acts as a protective area for your baby so they don’t crawl out of bed with out you knowing and then hurt themselves. It’s essential for any home with a new child.
The changing tables can be placed on the dressers you’ll have purchased by now. They’re can match the other kids furniture in look and feel. For instance a wood changing table can be purchased to match the look of a particular dresser.
Lastly, the gliders or rockers. These are simply modified and comfortable rocking chairs. They’re meant for rocking baby to sleep. However, often times regular chairs will recline and also rock in the normal position.
Beds
Getting the bed after the crib is a sign your child is growing. It’s also the next piece of kids furniture you’ll have to purchase. Generally a twin size bed will do, your child is tiny and doesn’t need a king size bed.
Additionally, they come in many shapes and designs. For instance you could purchase a toddler bed, which is similar to a normal bed but with some extra barriers like a crib would have.
Some people have multiple children in one room. This is common and the common solution is a bunk bed. This type of kids furniture is a great space saver because the beds are stacked over each other. This leaves a lot more room for activities.
Toys
There are other pieces of furniture that are useful but not as necessary. So I’ll ignore those things and focus on toys. You might not think toys are a type of kids furniture but with the amount you’ll be seeing toys, if they aren’t furniture, they will be.
There are plenty of educational toys that involve construction, math, and strategic thought. Additionally, bookshelves for kids are becoming increasingly popular. Moreover, play furniture is great for multiple kids. They can sit and play and eat meal at the their play chair and tables.
Overall
Overall, kids furniture starts with the baby – the cribs, rockers, and changing tables – and continues on to their toddler years – beds, toys, and more.
As they age your child might need desks and chairs for homework and studying, and into the future they might need TV stands and entertainment accessories.
But that’s not until they’re approximately 20.

Buying baby furniture for your children involves some precocious steps if you really want your babies to feel safe and comfortable. You sure do!
Baby furniture safety is what every parent needs
Choosing any piece of baby furniture you have to know where you are going to place it. If you really have some ideas in your mind where it should stand, make sure the chosen place can help to prevent accidents and injuries to your baby. Baby furniture cribs and baby cots should never be placed near a low window or heavy pieces of furniture. Even some baby furniture can cause injures that’s why some of it should be attached to the walls by special brackets. They will support the furniture and protect the curious baby who always tries to see what can be in cabinets and drawers. High chairs are also not recommended, they can accidentally topple overt the baby or baby can manage to climb onto a high chair and fall down. Do not use any folding pieces of furniture in the baby bedroom, they can fold and injure the baby. No other baby furniture set with leg latches or strap locks which can be easily loosen by a baby should be placed in the children room. Any baby room furniture should be child-proof; children like to tinker with things around. The material the furniture sets are made of should be safe, harmless and of best quality. Baby furniture safety is the first criterion and crucial point you should follow while choosing any piece of it for your baby bedroom. But the last is its price.
Baby furniture and baby age
When you choose baby furniture for the nursery room, look at the age and weight requirements. Some baby furniture pieces cannot hold the weight of toddlers.
Safe standards and warning labels are the things not to be ignored
Any piece of baby furniture must meet the state standard requirements, be up to the mark. The material baby furniture sets are made of, should be safe, harmless and of best quality. Examine carefully the instruction and warning labels, ignoring them might cause a fatal mistake. Remember, warning labels are written to be read. They will tell you how to use the furniture and what you must not do with it. Purchase baby furniture only from producers which are responsible for it quality and satisfy government safety standards. Buying anything and especially baby furniture examine every inch of it. It happens sometime that flaws and other product defects can be discovered much later by the producer. Moreover keep vigilant watch on product recalls, your furniture might be included in.
Keep an EYE even if you trust
And no matter how carefully designed baby furniture is adult supervision is necessary when your baby is in the crib, on a chair or on the playpen. When your child is very little the responsibility for his or her security depends on only your intent attention.

The decision to have a child is to accept that your heart will forever walk about outside of your body. We will always worry about our children and our paramount duty is to provide them a safe childhood. The problem is that small children absolutely have no sense of danger until they suffer from it. Some of the experience children get to know what is a real danger can appear too bitter, that is why one of the parents’ principal tasks is to save our little ones from such peril knowledge of life.
The first thing to remember
First you have to remember that it is not safe to leave a baby without your supervision even if you are 100% sure you have put the baby in the safest place of your house. Babies especially toddlers who are big enough to move by themselves are so active and curious and sometimes adults can’t avert the danger of a terrible fall or burn, it can happen so unexpectedly, in the twinkling of an eye.
Your baby bedroom
Your baby bed room is a place in your house where you and your little one are going to spend a huge amount of time. It is up to you to make this room the most comfortable and safety. Following the given tips you will be able to Do not place any furniture near the window to avoid accidents: falling out or cuts caused by broken window glass. Also do not place in the nursery room pieces of furniture which can be easily moved from one place to another. Your toddler might do it in order to look out the window in your absence. Choosing a baby cot it is preferable to buy a new one, you will be sure that every detail works and the cot is equipped with the latest safety features. Getting a second-hand cot can be practical in case if it is inspected thoroughly and every detail and fasteners are all right. Otherwise any blemish should be corrected before using the baby crib. Your baby crib should not have cut-outs at all. They can cause unfortunate results if your baby gets stuck there. Pillows should also be removed from the crib before you put your baby down to sleep. Hanging mobiles should be out of your baby’s reach Mattress should be firm and fit snugly If you place any piece of furniture in the nursery make sure it has no detail which are small and can be easily taken off. To avoid accidents with sockets, get socket safety plugs for all sockets in the children bedroom and around your home, as your child might curiously try to stick his fingers or some other objects in. Curtains are also one more problem to be foreseen. They can cause injury; especially long blinds cords can form loops. Tie the cords well so your baby cannot reach them.
Do not think that you baby is too little to do something. It should be remembered that what they couldn’t do yesterday they might be able to do today.

Planning for your first baby is a happy and frightening event. You want your newborns bedroom and the nursery furniture to be flawless, but it is vital to think about you and your baby’s comfort and wellbeing first. It’s therefore vital to ponder the dangers a nursery can present when designing your newborns first room.
The initial thing to fit to a new nursery is a smoke detector, for just a couple of pounds (or free from your community fire prevention officer) these must have gadgets should be your first consideration. When your child begins to crawl it’s important that any spare electrical outlet is covered with a simple plastic socket protector to prevent your inquisitive baby from sticking his fingers. It’s also a good idea to locate bedroom furniture in the way to prevent your baby from finding sockets.
Your baby’s cot is the item of nursery furniture where she will spend the most time for her first months. Cots are also one of the major causes of infant harm and death so it is essential to make sure your cot follows the recommended safety standards. Your cot should be deep enough so your baby is unable to climb out. Check that the spacing between the rails is not capable of permitting the child to trap their head.Ensure that cots with lowering sides lock automatically and cannot be worked free by the child.
It’s important that used cots are checked out thoroughly for damage to fastenings and fixtures and that you buy a brand new mattress for your baby. It’s also vital to check the mattress is a snug fit and leaves no more than a 4cm gap around the outside to prevent your child from becoming trapped.
Remember to place your newborn down to sleep on her back to lower the dangers of SIDS and refrain from using cushions or overly fluffy bed clothes in the cot. When using a nightlight make sure it is placed away from the cot and any other soft furnishings
Try to place your nursery furniture in a way that prevents positioning things in front of windows. Also steer clear of positioning anything that can assist your child to stand on to peer out of a window. Window locks are a fantastic way to make certain your youngster’s windows can only be released by you. If you have to open a window to permit ventilation make sure the window is secured and never open more than 5cm, there are fastenings on the market that stop windows from being opened wide enough to allow a child to climb out.
Another item of baby furniture responsible for numerous baby injuries is the changing station. Always fasten your child firmly with the changing station’s safety straps and never leave her on the table unattended. Keep your changing gear out of baby’s reach. Babies and toddlers are instinctively inquisitive and nappy sacks or rash creams are potentially dangerous.
Rather worryingly one of the most common causes of harm in a child’s room are curtains and blinds. Avoid using long curtains or drapes that may ensnare and suffocate a small toddler and never hang blinds with lengthy cords in your baby’s nursery. If you do use blinds, be sure to fold the strings out of the way high above baby’s reach and never place nursery furniture your baby occupies, like her cot or the changing table, near the blinds.
Choose your toy storage carefully. Toy boxes should be fitted with safety hinges or lightweight fabric lids to stop fingers from being trapped. As your baby gets older, she may climb inside the toy chest, toy box and a weighty lid could trap her so it’s important they be fitted with safety hinges or lightweight lids. Drawers are also potentially dangerous and ideally should have a soft close function. Doors also pose a danger to little digits and all doors should be fitted with child safe mechanisms to stop small digits from becoming damaged
By following straight forward advice and making sure their furniture complies the appropriate standards new parents can produce safe, chic and welcoming bedrooms for children and babies for their new baby.

After my second child arrived, I held him in my arms and my husband and I looked at him lovingly as my daughter watched. My toddler then said, “I think we should stay a small family.” That’s when it hit me. We didn’t do enough to prepare my older child for her brother’s arrival.
The good news is I have some suggestions for you on how to make the addition of a new sibling a time of sharing and bonding between you and your first child.
Sibling Tummy Time
As you begin to show in your pregnancy, allow your child to feel the developing baby, and let them begin a relationship early on. Encourage your little one to sing songs, tell jokes, explain the rules of the house, talk about his or her day or express whatever comes to mind.
Family Ultrasound Visit
If possible, have your little one along for an ultrasound. Imagine the excitement you’ll all feel as you see the little addition develop! The miracle of birth is a celebration for the whole family to share.
Track the Baby’s Due Date
Get a special calendar and circle the new baby’s due date. Let your toddler make an X each day as they pass. This is a good way to spend a little time each day allowing your child to talk about how they are feeling and what they are thinking about this impending change to the family structure.
Books about a New Baby
There are great children’s books written to help in this transition. (These, by the way, make an excellent baby gift at a shower for a woman with one child at home.) Make a special date and take your child to the library and read them together. Your little one will feel important, and recognize the sometimes confusing feelings are universal.
Assist with Nursery Design
Are you setting up a nursery? If so, let your child help. I suggest color selection is best left to the adults. Don’t make the same mistake I did and suffer through years of Cotton Candy Yellow in your home. If the two of them will be sharing a bedroom, make sure the older sibling has a say in how the space is arranged, and where the baby’s equipment and clothes will be arranged.
Baby Doll Roll Play
Practice with a life-sized doll. Allow your child to change and bathe the doll, and tuck it into the crib. Explain this is what you’ll be doing when the new baby comes home. This is also a good opportunity to discuss how babies are totally dependent on others for their care, how time-consuming this is, and how big a help an older brother or sister can be!
Early Sibling Schedule Changes
If you’re planning a change of schedule when baby comes (day care, more time with Grandma, preschool, etc.) begin that BEFORE the baby’s arrival. This will allow the adjustment to be made before the Big Event. Your child won’t feel as if he or she is being shoved aside by the arrival of the baby.
Gift for the New Baby
The arrival of a new little one is often an occasion for a baby gift. It’s fun to go on a shopping trip to pick out a baby gift for the new brother or sister that is just from your older child. Make a play time out of wrapping it.
Gift for Big Brother or Sister
And as long as we are talking about a baby gift, make sure you pick out something wonderful and absorbing for your older child in celebration of the new role of Big Brother or Big Sister. Give it to them right before the baby comes, and it does double duty as a way to entertain during those first days when Baby is so time-consuming.
You have no doubt noted the recurring theme in these suggestions: Communication. Siblings feel many emotions as they prepare for an addition to the family. These may include excitement, fear, jealousy, uncertainty and anxiety. By introducing the concept early on, discussing it whenever possible, engaging the older sibling in the preparation and celebrating not only the baby but also the Older Sibling status, you go a long way to promoting positive feelings and attitudes conducive to a lifetime of love and loyalty among your children.

Baby nursery bedding are vitally essential parts of your baby’s life. After all, he or she is going to be spending an extraordinary lot of time in in that location. It’s great to pass a bit of time and determine some truly decorative and unique infant crib sets, but beauty is only a portion of the equation. It’s really essential that you feel sure about the safety of your baby’s sleeping environment. It’s sometimes easy for new parents to get overwhelmed by the onslaught of information involving what they should and should not do for their little one. Acquaintances, relations, conscious strangers-it appears like just about everyone has an impression to offer. To add to the disarray, it seems like every other day, the news show sports a new baby product that’s been returned for being unsafe or even fatal. In the face of all this info and confusion, it’s hard to be sure but if your crib is brand new, chances are, it receives all the safety criteria.
Baby nursery bedding is for certain different than it used to be. It used to be that all you needed to use for nursery bedding was a crib, blanket and some bassinets and everything was fine. Nursery bedding has got way too sophisticated for babies that will never acknowledge the difference. As with all things; nursery bedding is not in truth designed with the baby in mind, but with the intent on impressing others with your ability to purchase expensive or hot items for the baby. Let’s admit it, a baby doesn’t care if he naps in a dresser drawer as long as he is well fed and dry. Simple wooden cribs are now developed with pricey gold and marble inlays; hand crafted designs, and overhead canopies. Nursery bedding is getting to look like adult furniture in its lavishness and price.
The bassinets and cribs alone can cost up to $2000 or even more. That is not including the pillows, sheets, bumper pads and blankets. Baby pillows are an unusual supplement to a crib for a newborn because they are not even thought to be utilising them. The once simply designed bassinet that appeared like a half-canopied basket is now beginning to have its extras too. Bassinets are fashioned with woody inlays etc, and they are moveable to rock the baby to sleep so that parents do not have to rock them with their foot anymore. It seems that advanced technology is not only making baby live like the rich and famous, but parents don’t even have to come inside two feet of their infants if they don’t wish to as the new accessories to bed clothing include, mobiles, music boxes, and rocking via remote control etc. Nursery bedding is almost as modern as adult bedding.
Baby nursery bedding is so versatile that it could be applied in a moon and stars or heavenly nursery theme as well as to stand alone. Disney themes have persisted at the top of the list of up-to-date bedrooms for kids. They provide baby bedding, accessories and decorations that are so easy to combine and fit when the nursery or bedroom needs a makeover. In many cases, the crib sets can be withdrawn and exchanged with a set of Mickey bedding for tots without the demand to switch out the rest of the bedroom’s decorative add-ons.

When you choose bedding for your baby the one which can guarantee optimum baby bedding safety and coziness to your baby is your only option and the best fabric for is 100 percent cotton.
Following are descriptions of the different types of bedding available for each type of baby furniture.
- Crib Bedding. For the first year of the baby’s life, the crib is its ideal bed. Cribs are available many different types and they all need to be durable and strong. You can choose the standard crib or go for a more expensive crib such as a convertible / portable crib which is ideal for traveling. It is best to choose the crib from a reputable company and the one you decide on must have no protruding pieces that the baby could knock against and hurt itself. All screws and bolts etc need to be securly fastened and you should check these often.
- Bassinet Bedding. These are suitable for the baby for the first 3 or 4 months only. A perfect bassinet will have a soft mattress and a blanket. It should be made of a soft material with ideally the color blending with the baby’s room colors, design and decor.
- Cradle bedding. Cradles have a gentle rocking motion which ensures that your baby sleeps soundly. Light colored cradles are preferred by parents because they not only look attractive but you can notice when they get wet.
- Baby blankets. Blankets should be of a soft material and of course must be non-toxic. Today there are many types of blankets to choose from that are soft, smooth and pleasant smelling with attractive and eye pleasing colors.
Bedding for the baby could differ depending on whether it is a boy or a girl, or alternatively it could be gender neutral as well. The color combination and cute looking cartoons are common to both the baby boys and baby girls.
For the girls, the baby bedding is often in shades of pink, light blue and purples, and a baby girl’s bed is laid out fit for a princess. A baby boy’s bed is sometimes sport oriented, themed around super sport heroes, wrestling personalities or football and baseball stars. The colors tend to be darker and bolder for boys, often blue but also reds and intermingled with dark blue or black.
There is no hard and fast rule for baby bedding. You will see a lot of neutral nursery bedding themes with cartoons such as Disney and Popeye characters or cute animations.
The baby in its first few years is too small to understand the difference about having gender specific cartoons and animals and they are attracted to anything which is coloful; if it is pleasing to your eyes and makes you smile, it will do the same for your baby. When they get a little older, little boys would feel a little awkward having his bed done in pinks and pastels!
When baby girls grow older, their bedroom could have blinds with the curtains hanging on rods above. This gives the bed somewhat a princess bed appearance – afterall, that baby girls of yours is a princess, isn’t she!
Bedding is one interesting aspect where there are a lot of options for the parent – choosing the kinds and textures of sheets and the choices of colors and baby bedding patterns. It is up to you if you choose gender neutral baby bedding or something which would make your baby girl feel like a princess or your baby boy feel like a superhero!

There is now a rich and varied collection of Amish furniture available for all purposes. And it isn’t just regular furniture for the bedroom or the dining room or the living room, but also children’s furniture that is made by the Amish. There are Amish baby high chairs, Amish baby cribs, nursery furniture, desk furniture for children, wooden toy boxes and various other items that are handcrafted by the Amish, and can be excellent choices for little children to use.
Amish baby cribs or convertible beds are an excellent choice for those that want the kind of furniture that is really high quality; those that want the best for their child. This is the furniture that lasts, so there is none of the cracking or breaking or chipping that you may see from the cheaper variety of furniture when it is subjected to the kind of rough use that will inevitably result from children using it.
A solid well made Amish baby crib with slats is a versatile and flexible choice. This can be used as soon as a baby has outgrown a bassinet and then the child will be able to use it until he or she is several years old. Not only will this be able to be used by all the children in the family, it will can be passed on from your children to your grandchildren if you so wish! These cribs and baby beds come in many different styles such as Mission, Shaker, Sleigh style etc.
Amish gliders come in child sizes as well as full grown adult sizes. They could be a lovely addition to a play room for a little child, a sturdy, well made, high quality glider that the child will spend many happy hours playing on.
It is a great idea to get one of the Amish rocking chairs when you are planning to have a baby or have just had one. A glider is a great way for either parent to relax with, and also a wonderful and soothing way to get your little baby to sleep. Rocking back and forth is soothing not only for the parent but also for the baby who will find it so soothing as to be rocked to a peaceful sleep by the motion.
Amish baby high chairs make sure that your little one gets used to sitting down for meals at the dining table along with everyone (if you so wish) from an early age. When you have a solid wood high chair with a built in tray of the mission style or similar as popularized by the Amish, you need not fear that the chair will suffer any chipping or cracking the way a cheap plastic one would; neither would it be potentially dangerous the way a folding one made from metal would be. Constructed in a way that the baby cannot wriggle out and hurt itself, the Amish baby high chair is something that will last your child for several years and which you as a parent will enjoy seeing your baby make good use of.
